Jack's oldest friend and confidant and possibly his last ally on the force.

Captain Mandrake joined the police in the same year as Jack and his career has gone from success to success. Starting as a traffic cop when in his 20's, Mandrake quickly came onto the radar of his superiors who made sure he wasn't beating his feet for too long. After an auspicious career working fraud cases, Mandrake stepped up to homicide and then on to serious and organised crime. His career took a turn for the worse for a couple of years as he was injured in the shoot-out which claimed the life of Jackson's partner. Two years in and out of hospital gave Mandrake the chance to meet nurse Nadine, the one love of his life that didn't involve blue strobes on the roof of a car, who has recently given birth to their first child. 

Due to his injury Mandrake was never able to take to the streets in a law enforcement capacity again but rather than lose his policing skills, the commissioner put him on a fast-track route to his current position as Captain of the central police department. He is expected to go much higher as his career progresses and he'd hoped to take Jack with him. Sadly the same incident that cost Mandrake his front line career, cost Jack his belief in policing as well as his partner. Now Mandrake struggles to keep Jack focused so he can achieve all that his early career led everyone to believe it would.
